The design is based on the expansion of the existing Hamad International Airport (HIA) and includes an expansion of the existing processor building, the addition of two new terminal (concourses D & E) and a link to the new Doha Metro Red Line. The expansion allowed an increase in the terminal annual capacity from 30 to 53 million passengers a year, eventually creating a terminal of more than 1 million square meters.
